L’estartit - and the wind returns 😳

Woke up to another lovely day and headed straight for the beach and one last walk along it - so beautiful, but dear reader, you’ve guessed it! The wind returned - with a vengeance and so quickly. By the time we turned to return across the beach, the wind was so cold. When you look at the photographs, you would not be able to guess from the blue sky how cold it gets - turning on a sixpence so to speak. So we made our way the very short distance to L’estartit - and an actual campsite. This place is 20€ per night using the ACSI card - well worth it in season, especially in Spain. What a site - the best for facilities we have encountered thus far. The bar is open and is serving food which is so reasonably priced as are the drinks. We met a couple from Sheffield who we originally met back in Rosas - they have a female border collie who is 5 and she is a darling. No doubt there will be a love affair blooming with Tom - if she likes older men of course!!! The shower block is amazingly modern and so efficient - the showers actually run with no stopping them till you have finished. Wow. Loving it. We didn’t go into town tonight - we sat outside after lunch and read our books and watched the little finches come and grab any crumbs that may have fallen from our plates. Now, as you know, this is a revisit for my husband to the area he frequented as a young man. After he came to this area with his family, he and a group of lads who are now amongst our closest friends, indeed John is our sons‘ godfather, came down here in an old Volkswagon camper. There is an incident Alan recalls which really made me laugh out loud. His mate, Graham Basset and him were in a bar in L’estartit (They were late teens, early twenties) and spotted a couple of ‘sorts’ (the term used for attractive young ladies back in the day) dancing - so they decided to ask them if they could join them. They were strutting their stuff on the dance floor with these two young women when the track started - ’I Heard it Through the Grapevine’. Now if you know this track you will know it was recorded by both Marvin Gaye and Credence Clearwater Revival - the difference between the two is that Marvin Gaye‘s version is about three minutes long. The Credence Clearwater Revival one played that night was an album track and it played for around 15 minutes. Now, my husband can jig his way through a dance if absolutely necessary, but to dance in full disco mode for a full 15 minutes was beyond the pale - needless to say, those two young ladies were safe that night. I’m still laughing ............
It is a lot busier here than it is in France in every way. The sites are busier, the restaurants and bars are open and there is a real holiday vibe. I am being asked quite frequently about any areas of concern regarding the virus - no, there are none we have encountered.
The picture featured here tonight is one Al took in L’Escala of the monument to the 1992 Olympic Games. We think the sailing part of the Olympics may have taken place here.
So a quiet day today. Tomorrow we venture into town where there may be a few sights to nudge Alan’s memory from the late 1960’s. Who knows, but if there are, you will hear about it tomorrow. Nighty night
