L’estartit - another sunshine day

Up with the lark this morning to get cracking as it was a super hot sunny day and, as we were walking quite a way in the sun, we thought the sooner we got going the better. So we did. The site is filling up as we speak to the point that there are hardly any spare plots this evening. No wonder - this place is spot on as a site so, if you want to visit this area, this is place to come. Heads up though, it’s a long walk into town, so a bike would be a good thing. However, we have our Tom so we walk! And what a lovely walk it is. Straight from the site out to the coast, then boardwalk into town following the line of the sea. As we got nearer into town, the bars, cafes and restaurants came into view. Still very quiet due to the time of year - this place has been developed over the years to accommodate many holiday makers - the drawback to that is, there are many apartment blocks that are shuttered up until the hordes arrive, it gives it quite a ghostly feel. We saw a gentleman this morning cycling towards the beach. He stopped at the huge recycling area and was going through them to see if there was anything worth having. We stopped for a coffee and then walked around, but there is very little to see here to be perfectly honest. Good job the view is to stunning. Had a look around the church, beautiful outside - had some lovely figures on the walls inside but a very simple set up internally. We decided to take some time over lunch and enjoyed a very reasonably priced lunch of chicken with, what looked like onion rings. Alan tasted these ‘onion rings’ and said “They’re potato”. With that the waiter, who understood English, said “No Sir, Calamari”. Anyway, Alan ate them and said they still tasted like potato. 😂 So I think we can deduce that Calamari is wasted on Alan. Now, as I said, Alan holidayed here with his mates circa 1968 and he was recalling that he and four others came down in their Volkeswagon van with a canvas tent they bought for £20 in Plymouth and pitched their tent on the beach. It‘s a shame but he cannot see anywhere that is familiar - it has been developed so much over that time. I am getting some stories about Lloret though so will be sharing them with you later. We move onto Tossa-de-mar tomorrow which I have been told is a lovely place - I know my Mum and her partner spent some time there as well, so all the things they told me about it will come into sharper focus. We walked back an alternative route complements of my husband’s map reading and it was hot with no shelter from it, so we were glad to get back around 3pm. (En route we walked over and bridge and came across what I can only describe as a ‘sea’ of what looked like miniature Pampas Grass, way into the distance. It seemed to be sitting on a fairly stagnant river bed, so that is the picture I share with you tonight)

. One thing was certain, we didn’t need to eat anything else for the rest of the day! There is a lovely little German family who arrived last night who we met this morning as the Mum speaks quite good English. They have three little girls, one 6, one 3 and one 6months. Goodness you forget how much there is involved bringing up little ones - I take my hat off to them. They have their washing lines up already and they are full!
Well, I must go now as my darling dog is chasing Alan round the van as he is getting ready for bed. Good job we have a door that separates the sleeping area from the main van! 😂😂😂 He’s a proper case as we say! Nighty night
